Looking backwards and forwards from 50

Launched on February 18, 2026, my 50th birthday, this gallery/show features art works from the last 3 decades of carving out my vision, voice and direction in the pursuit of a creative life.
This is an ongoing show; more pieces will be added as my 50th year progresses so feel free to revisit - and thank you for being here.

About Erika

I am a lifelong artist. Art has been my most reliable means of expression throughout my life, enabling me to develop a voice that is beyond what I can say with my own. I recognized how important this was to me when I was just a kid but it feels even more so as an adult. This “show” is a birthday gift to myself; an opportunity to look back at works and moments that were pivotal to my getting to where I am today. As anyone older than me can attest, aging’s “gift with purchase” is perspective, and as I’ve unearthed these pieces from my archives, I can see the person I was then pointing to the person I am now. Finding that thread of continuity has been the best, and most surprising, part of this project so far. The second best part is sharing these pieces with you, so thank you for witnessing.

I originally intended to have an in-person gallery show for my 50th birthday, but logistical challenges made an online show the best choice for now. This format means that this project is now ongoing, as I continue to add works from past and present, from my 50th year onwards. I am initially launching with artworks made in the early 2000s, and will continue to add work and show notes as I go. I invite you to visit every once and awhile to see what’s new.

At some point I will post an official artist’s biography, but until then here is the tl;dr:

  • Ottawa School of Art, portfolio development program/BFA curriculum, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

  • Sheridan College, Art Fundamentals, Oakville, Ontario, Canada

  • Sheridan College, Interpretive Illustration, Oakville, Ontario, Canada

  • Pont Aven School of Contemporary Art, Pont Aven, Brittany, France
